UC Merced admitted its first graduate students in cognitive science in 2006. Our university emphasizes interdisciplinary research and education, and our graduate programs are organized as graduate groups that span many traditional disciplines.

Our faculty has expertise in many subfields of cognitive science, including high level cognition (e.g., categorization, memory, reasoning), language processing, spatial cognition, philosophy, neural networks, developmental psychology, computational modeling, artificial intelligence, robotics, and cognitive engineering. Graduate students will conduct original research leading to a Ph.D. dissertation, much as they would in more traditional departments, but both their coursework and their possible research topics will cover a broader range of disciplines.

We believe that our graduate program offers a unique environment and a special opportunity for students to explore a broad range of possibilities and develop individualized programs of study. To apply visit the graduate division web site. For more information email phdcogsci @ucmerced.edu.
