Cognitive Science undergraduate student Maya Manesh has been awarded the Carter Joseph Abrescy and Larry Kranich Library Award for Student Research Excellence. Awarded annually by the UC Merced Library, the award "recognizes students who demonstrate effective use of UC Merced library and information resources, as well as an understanding of the research process and growth in research practices."
Maya's submission was titled, “Get Off or Get Up and Pray: Religiosity and Women’s Sexuality." It was originally written as the final research paper for the course COGS 179, The Cognitive Science of Religion, instructed by Professor Colin Holbrook.
According to the award announcement, "Her work blends insights from cognitive science, sociology, and religious studies. She has dedicated her Award to “women worldwide, past, present, and future,” with gratitude." More details are available here.
