Note:

This semester’s MTS talk series will be on Music, Movement and Cognition. We have an excellent set of speakers lined up for this event. This will be followed by the CHASE Summer School that will also feature leading researchers in music cognition.

CHASE Summer School

Ramesh Balasubramaniam, Chris Kello, and Teenie Matlock are organizing the first CHASE Summer School on The Dynamics of Music and Language between May 18-24, 2014. This is being co-organized with researchers at the Temporal Dynamics of Learning Center (TDLC) at UC San Diego.

The summer school will feature invited speakers from May 18-21, Location: Tenaya Lodge @ Yosemite. This will be followed by lab sessions May 22-23 here at UC Merced (motion-capture, EEG/TMS, acoustics analysis, MATLAB exercises etc).

Invited speakers include:
David Huron (Ohio-State): Musical expectancy and anticipation.
Laurel Trainor (McMaster): Music and movement in development.
Dale Purves (Duke): Tonal preferences in speech and music.
Ed Large (UConn): Music and brain dynamics.
Scott Makeig (UCSD): Methods for studying brain dynamics.
Rick Dale (UC Merced): Language, music and interaction between individuals.
